This CD ROM is a unique
resource, created by teachers in Cornwall for teachers in
Cornwall and beyond as part of 2015 - The Teacher’s
Contribution.
The teachers who participated in the project
demonstrated a passionate commitment to engage and empower their
students in the fight to overcome global poverty. They realised
the important role they could play as teachers in deepening understanding
and engagement with development issues and committed themselves
to creating schemes of work to deliver their own subject objectives
and education about global development issues.
“If we raise awareness in schools, tomorrow’s world will be fairer
for all”. A 2015 teacher
Many of the teachers were motivated by their own personal commitment to do something
about the challenge of global poverty. All took this opportunity to learn more
themselves and develop confidence in dealing with complex issues.
Some of the resources produced are based on existing resources from commercial
publishers or charities; others are entirely original and were created from scratch.
All of the lessons use a range of teaching and learning styles with a great emphasis
on active and kinesthetic approaches which engage students on an emotional level
as well as intellectually. As you will see from the case studies and quotations
in this booklet, teachers reported that such approaches lead to greater understanding,
motivation and engagement. In other words, they work!
CADE has copies of the resource materials which support the 2015 schemes of work
available for loan to schools which are members of CADE and do not want to go
to the expense of obtaining their own copies of the materials.
